One AFA For The Day!

Today the 84 Engine was dispatched for an Automatic Fire Alarm to a local Industrial Facility. The 84 Engine enroute with a crew of 6, Chief 84 (Wiseman) on the scene reporting normal conditions. The 84 Engine arrived on the scene and crew went interior. After investigating, the interior crew found a dry sprinkler system that lost its air pressure and caused the system to get wet, causing the alarm. Facility was going to contact maintenance and have the systems fixed. The 84 Engine was placed available and returned to service.

Spill Control In Columbia Borough!

Today at 1626 hours the 84 Engine was dispatched to assist Company 87 (Consolidated) with a Spill Control. The 84 Engine enroute with a crew of 5 and arrived on the scene. Crews found a very large hydrocarbon spill. Crews from 87 and 84 worked on controlling the spill from getting into the storm water system as the Borough road crew was contacted to assist on the roadway. Once the road crew was complete the assignment was placed available and all units returned to service.

2 Alarm Structure Fire In The 84 Local!

This evening as crews were loading up for the Borough wide training, we were dispatched for a Structure Fire. Chief 8 on the scene reporting a working fire in the middle of a row of homes. The 84 Engine arrived first and established a water source from the hydrant right across the street from the structure. The 84 Engine advanced 2 lines into the burning structure. Truck 81 arrived and was instructed to go to the roof and open up. The 84 Rescue arrived and advanced additional lines into the other structures. Engine 81 and 87 assisted with handline operations and opening up the walls and ceilings of the dwellings. The 2nd alarm was requested for additional manpower. The 84 Engine worked this scene for more the 3 hours.

Odor Investigation in Columbia Borough!

Tonight the 84 Rescue was dispatched for an Odor Investigation. Chief 84 arrived on the scene with normal conditions and set up the Command. The 84 Rescue enroute with a crew of 7 and arrived on the scene behind Engine 87. Crews investigated the odor in the residence with nothing found. Box was placed available and Columbia units went available.

Two Building Fires For Volunteers!

Saturday started early for members who were training in Water Rescue with members of Company 907 (Blue Rock). As these members were training, the 84 House was dispatched for a Building Fire. The 84 Engine enroute first with a crew of 5, Deputy 81 on the scene confirming a working fire with two garages on fire. The 84 Engine went on the scene and laid the supply line for the incident. The 84 Engine crew advanced two lines to knock down the bulk of the fire. The 84 Rescue arrived and crews went to work opening up the structure to find any hidden fires. Columbia units worked the scene for more the an hour and a half.
Then at 1859 hours the 84 Rescue was dispatched for a Industrial Building Fire to assist Company 901 (Blue Rock). The 84 Rescue enroute with a crew of 7. During our response, first arriving units confirmed no problems at the facility and put the box available. The 84 Rescue returned available.

Reported Chimney Fire in the Borough!

Today the 84 Engine was dispatched for a reported Chimney Fire. The 84 Engine enroute with 5, Chief 8 on the scene reporting a 2.5 story middle of the row with smoke from the roof and chimney. The 84 Engine arrived on the scene and laid a supply line from the hydrant. The 84 Engine crew forced entry into one dwelling searching for a source of the smoke. Engine 81's crew searched a second dwelling to find the source. Truck 87 arrived on the scene and started to throw ground ladders. Crews found the source to be a furnace technician that sprayed a chemical into the furnace with no fire problem. Crews picked up equipment and cleared the incident in 25 minutes.

Two Runs & Training!

Saturday started at 1107 hours as the 84 Engine and 84 Rescue were dispatched for a Vehicle Accident on Route 462. The 84 Rescue went enroute. PD on the scene reported a minor MVA and no need for the Fire Department. Station 84 went available. Then, in the evening, crews loaded up on the 84 Engine and 84 Rescue and headed to the Columbia River park to do some pump and handline training. Some newer members were introduced to handline operations with some current members working on getting qualified to be a pump operator on the 84 Engine. As crews were cleaning up the handlines, we were dispatched for a Vehicle Fire on Central Avenue in the Borough. The 84 Engine went enroute and arrived first finding the fire to be out. Assignment was held to the 84 Engine only and crew confirmed no smoldering fire in the dash. Once this was done, crews returned to station and began clean up from the training evolution.

Day Crew Assist Company 901!

Today at 0647 hours the first alarm was struck for a Structure Fire in Company 901's (Blue Rock Fire/Rescue) district. Truck 67 (Rohrerstown) arrived on the scene first with fire showing from the single family dwelling. Truck 67's Officer requested the working fire dispatch and the 84 Engine. The 84 Engine was dispatched at 0654 hours and responded with a crew of 5. The 84 Engine arrived as the third Engine Company. Crew pulled handlines and also assisted with extending some lines into the building. At 0701 hours the second alarm was struck, now dispatching the 84 Heavy Rescue to the scene. The 84 Rescue went enroute with a crew of 6 and arrived on the scene. The 84 Rescue crew was put to work opening up the interior of the building to expose any hidden fires. The 84 Units worked the scene for 93 minutes.
As the 84 Units worked this scene, 4 more Volunteers stood by with Rescue 84-2 for any other incidents in the area.

Day Crew has One Ejected!

Today at 1230 hours the Day Crew was dispatched for a Vehicle Accident with Entrapment and Ejection on Route 30. The 84 Rescue went enroute with a crew of five, LCWC reporting the accident to be West Bound just before the Intercounty Bridge. EMS arrived on the scene and reported one victim ejected and no entrapment. The 84 Rescue arrived and Deputy 84 set up the Command. The 84 Rescue crew went to work assisting EMS and controlling hazards. The vehicle was depowered and fluids controlled. Once the patient was being transported to the local trauma center, Command was turned over to the engine officer and the 84 Rescue returned ready for service. The engine remained on the scene till all hazards were removed

MVA on the Route 462 bridge!

Tonight at 2125 hours the 84 Rescue was dispatched to assist Company 76 (West Hempfield) on a Vehicle Accident with entrapment on the Route 462 bridge. The 84 Rescue enroute with a crew of 9. Chief 84 arrived on the scene and reported one vehicle on its side with a patient still inside. Chief 84 also confirmed this to be a Columbia Borough assignment and had the units from 76 go available. The 84 Rescue arrived on the scene with the patient self extricating from the rear window. Patient was taken to the awaiting EMS unit. York Rescue 41 popped the hood to the engine compartment. The crew from 84 depowered the still running vehicle. Engine 81 provided a handline for operations. Once the hazards were controlled the rescue from 84 and 41 were placed available.
